Hello,
I’m pretty new to composites central, so if this is the wrong place to post this, please forgive me.
I have a question that maybe someone here could help me with, my uncle passed away awhile back, and one of the things that he left me was a roll of synthetic material of some sort. I’ve had some experience working in fiber glass before, but this isn’t something that I recognize.
One of the things that I know about my uncle is that he was a motorcycle enthusiast, he had a BWM and a Ducati that he always worked on and toured with along with a couple other project bikes. One of the things that he would talk about was making an enlarged BWM gas tank in carbon fiber for extra long distance tours…so I wonder if this is some sort of carbon fiber or one of the fiber glass materials that look like CF.
Here are some of the pictures of the material:

As you can see that it is a silver color on the outside, and it has a black color on the inside. It seems that normally the material is white (like at the top edge) but whatever the black layer is, it’s what gives it the silver look on the outside, along with a bit of firmness.
There are these numbers printed in white on the inside that read “083601H & 083901H”, and they repeat every so often throughout the length of the material.
To give you an idea of the dimensions of this material, it’s a little over 83 feet long and bout 3 and a half feet wide/tall. It weights about 22 lbs.
There wasn’t any resin to go along with this, and it’s left me a bit mystified.
So I was wondering if any one here has seen similar material before?
Cheers,
-Vinnie
