How?

this is apparently very good for overlays but how do they do this? is it “imitation” pre-preg.

[i]"ProFinish™ Coated Carbon

For years this special coated carbon has been the trade secret of composites manufacturers and companies offering professional carbon fibre skinning services but now this fantastic material is available to buy direct from the skinning experts!

ProFinish™ carbon fibre is 100% genuine carbon fibre fabric that has been partially impregnated with a resin binder on the reverse side. This resin binder keeps the weave perfectly aligned during handling an positioning in the mould and - even more amazingly - allows the fabric to be cut and jointed with perfect, sharp cut-lines previously only seen on pre-preg parts.

ProFinish™ carbon fibre fabric is perfect for any application where the best possible visual appearance is required. ProFinish™ only needs to be used for the visible layer of carbon fibre on a part so when making 100% carbon fibre parts you only need to use ProFinish™ for the 1st layer into the mould. ProFinish™ is perfect for carbon fibre skinning/wrapping where its ease of handling, perfect weave alignment and ability to make neat sharp cut-lines give it a big advantage when doing large or complicated parts to a professional standard"

We have been using something similar from Saertex for a couple of years. It’s a dissolvable binder that allows dry fabrics to stay in place for infusion lay-ups.

TET,

Is the Saertex compatible with epoxy infusion resin? Would you consider reselling to people on this board?

Thanks

Anders

Cytec was/is coming out with something like that. a thermoplastic binder thread, that not only shapes the stack for automated infusing (think we saw some videos on here lately about press molding dry fabric), and also acts as a toughener for the part.
