How To Remove 3M Super 77 Adhesive From Mold?

hey guys,
Since I was having problems keeping the twill together on my cf, I went ahead with the advice to use a spray adhesive in the mold. I went with what people were using, 3M Super 77, and sprayed it lightly on my mold. That thing is sticky. I got antsy waiting for my infusion parts to come in the mail so I decided to do a hand layup for practice. Anyway, long story short…

I pulled the part from the mold and the part itself on the surface has a gritty finish due to the spray. Inside of the mold is the same thing. It has this gritty surface on it from the spray. I tried just water and a sponge pad but it didn’t come off. How do you guys get this stuff off after you use it? I really don’t want to have to wet sand and buff the mold again

thanks in advance

Acetone. However it sounds like you have used wayyyy too much. When I spray it I can barely see it on the mould surface, then there’s only a very slight residue left after the infusion.

I think it will also rub off with a bit of dry fibreglass cloth or CSM. It sticks to the fglass and not to the mould.

Ok thanks. Ill try acetone first. Then if not ill be back. Can’t do it until Friday so it’ll be a while. In the mean time, any other advice would be great.

Hey Hanaldo, does the residue also show in your finish when you pull the part?

Rubbing Alcohol.

Not after a wipe with acetone. It’s visible when I demould, but I wash it with warm soap and water and then give it a quick wipe with acetone and it’s done.

Which resin are you using?

Me? I only use epoxy. Kinetix R118 and Renlam K3600 are the two I use.

hi Hanaldo. I was asking whitecel about the resin. We work with VE and epoxy. The styrene in VE resin breaks down the Super 77. Not so with epoxy. We don’t use Super 77 with epoxy for that reason.

Sorry for the late response. I’m using polyester surfboard resin, but will be switching to epoxy.

But thanks hanaldo. Acetone worked Iike a charm
