Hello, I want to know what additive reduce the resin viscosity. I have a laminated resin with medium viscosity but now I want to trying to infuse.
Do not try and modify resin intended for hand laminating to use for infusion. Purchase resin that is intended for infusion applications.
What is resin? Polyester or epoxy? (or even anything else)
Its epoxy resin.
Best is to source an infusion epoxy. Thinning down epoxy can be done with a reactive diluent, but mechanical and thermal properties can drop significantly.
Besides that, chances are you come across an infusion epoxy sooner than a reactive diluent.
Aim for a mixed viscosity of 100-250 mpas
well,so I’ll buy a infusion resin.
Reichold Hydrex 100 HF Vinyl Ester is one of the best infusion resins out there.
He asked for epoxy…
Indeed the Hydrex stuff in the USA is a good option in vinylester, in Europe I tend to favor the VE370SC from Polynt.
In epoxy in Europe it is either 04908 from Momentive, or SR8100 from Sicomin, with a favor to the last one.
That, and also control the molds temperature as well as the resin. Cold environments tend to slow feed rates considerably. But you also don’t want to over heat the mod either as it can increase boil and degassing issues.
I recently did an Epoxy infusion that was for two mirror image cored items. I had to infuse CF on both sides at once. I didn’t heat the first infusion and it required 30min. I heated both the resin and mold slightly in round two and it infused in 7min. I also slowed the feed to avoid too fast of flow front.
