How to give my custom carbon fiber fender a nice glossy finish?

Hello, Im new to this forum and the world of carbon fiber. After tinkering with making small carbon fiber and carbon/kevlar parts, I’ve decided to tackle a car fender. First, I made a mold of my existing fender in seperate parts. I made a mold of the skin of the fender first. Then, I made molds of all the flanges that are attached to the fender skin which bolt to the frame of the car. I did a wet layup and I used epoxy resin with UV protectant. I popped that out of the mold and brushed on two layers of that same epoxy resin on top of the fender to give it a nice glossy finish. Obviously, it is not perfect and has some waviness and uneveness due to me brushing on epoxy resin. What should I do next to start making this part appear smooth, even, and glossy? I’ve considered wetsanding this with progressively finer sandpapers starting with 240 grit to 1200 grit. Should I consider using a rotary buffer? I would appreciate any input!!! Thanks

What did your plug look like? If it was nice and straight and smooth you could have sprayed the whole piece in a quality automotive clear then treated it like a regular car clear. Wet sand and polish…(Lots of opinions here on the “right” way) Typically start around 1200 or so and go up to 1500 or 2000 grit followed with a good power polish.

At this point I would attempt the same once the resin has fully cured up…I would try to sand, polish in an area that you would not see easily first then continue on with the main part.

Thanks for the advice
