Have never had problems with mold/part releasing but still: How do you do a tape test?
Would be nice to be able to check before ruining a good mold with insufficient waxing!
Peel off some masking tape, press it onto your mould, pull it off.
If it sticks then you’re not ready, if it doesn’t you’re good to go.
Simple. 
When using wax release I find it hard to tell when using this technique. Works very well with semi permanents though.
I always use 3/4" 3m masking tape. pull off a 4-6" long piece, stick half to the mold and peel. it should feel smooth and creamy and the tape shouldnt stick at all. Depending on the slip level of the release you can even slide the tape around like it was paper. After you do this test enough times you really can get a good idea when to add more release. However it is not a perfect test because your only testing a small area of the mold.
