when making fibreglass parts with a white gelcoat is it ok for me to coat the molds and then maybe not lay the first layer of reinforcement until a day or 2 later?
I have laid fiberglass on gel coat that has been sitting for over a year so you should be ok, I gel coat all my molds for storage so the surface does not get scratched

i dont like to go any longer than a couple of days i build the whole part and leave it in the mold till i need it
gell in to long and i have pre release problems but that is on a large flat surface
also watch the temp changes that will also cause pre release
i quite often dont stick anything in the mould apart from gel for up to a week. never had a prob really. apart from getting dirt/dust trapped on the back of the gelcoat. not really a problem if you are using a pigment.
