How differcult is it to make this? Picture inside.

1. How differercult would it be to make something like this and can it be done with just a wet layup method? And how expensive would something like that sell for?

Difficult? No, but experience is required. Wet layup? Definately not. I can’t see enough to say but I’m guessing around $500 to make the part not including the tooling cost.

exactly what evan said it would not be terribly difficult but if this is your first attempt at making a piece this is not what I would start with!

But can it be done with a Wet layup method, or do I need to get set up with a vacuum.

Definately vacuum bagging, although that part you see there is made using prepreg.

Just curious, but how can you tell it is prepreg from the pics???

how uniform the weave is and the lack of deep gloss. It is hard to describe but when you get to know the difference you can really tell

I’m pretty sure they used prepreg as well. In the picture at the top it looks like this is a GP bike, most of those teams have some cash. It also looks like a very dry part, check out along the edge of the seat support. They probably have used some very thin uni-tape in spots as well for ultimate stregth to weight ratio. In a part that sits this high I’m sure they pay extra close attention. Its sort of like if you saw an F1 tub and wondered if it was wet layup.

that is the word I was looking for, it has a dry look.

Thanks for input guys, I really appriciate all the remarks. It puts things in perspective for me. I know the only way learn is from your mistakes, but the mistakes in this area can be from a couple hundred to a thousand, and i’m on a shoe string budget. So thanks again.

prepreg is nice.
