How can i make a tray?

A bit geeky i know but i want to make either a CF or Fibreglass tray to sit on one of my windowslls to put my chillis on, measurements need to be roughly 1 metre long by about 250mm wide with a lip of say 20mm or 30mm to stop any overflow water, what material can i use to make the mold?

For flat parts almost anything really. You could make your mold out of foam but it also sounds like what you want to make already exists in some other material. If you can find your part in plastic or some other material just use that as your mold.

Thanks for the reply, they already make these trays i speak of in the right length just not the right width, im trying to maximise the width of my windowsill. i thought of buying 2 of these trays and chopping them to somehow try and make a wider one that i could make a mould from but the join would stand out from a mile off i think

Well what you could do is buy one of these trays and mould off it it twice. Just leave one edge off the first time. Then the next time leave the adjacent end off. Now you have two pieces, glue them together and you’re done.

Put a 20 or 30mm thick plastic faced board of the desired tray dimensions on another plastic faced board that’s a few inches larger all around. Blend the edges with industrial or styling clay. Wax it all, and lay up your part.
There’s your tray.
