This was my first try at making a carbon fiber fuel pump cover for my honda civic. I only used carbon fiber and epoxy resin. No clear coat nor gel coats. I used a vacuum bagging system and then I postcured it in an oven. It came out great. I thought that I could possibly make this myself since I didn’t want to pay $100 retail for this piece that is primarily an accent.
Nice!
What did you use for a mould? fiberglass mould.
I sanded and polished the underside of the OE fuel pump cover
Nice part, I just hope it will fit because it is smaller being moulded on the inside of the OEM fuel cover…
ntomic,
Looks pretty good man, especially for a first attempt and using your creativity in laminating on the inside of the OEM cover, haha… good job!

I’ll take some pics and post them tomorrow
Nice job man. Do you plan on clear coating it to protect it from the elements?
No, I don’t plan to clear coat this. The finish came out great and the epoxy resin has UV in it. This part is inside the car and is not constantly exposed to the sunlight nor elements. I built this primarily to have a light, strong, carbon fiber piece for my track hatch. I know that it saves only a few ounces, but I think it looks cool.
Very cool man!
Please do keep in mind that most resins, (especially epoxy resins) that are UV resistant are only UV resistant for so long. All of those chemicals that keep the part safe from UV rays bake off at some point. Thats why using an automotive clear coat is recommended. Automotive clear coats are manufactured out of chemicals that are naturally UV resistant. Thats why you can keep your car in the sun all day every day with out it fading. As long as you maintain the paint through washing and waxing.
thanks for the advice
No problem :).
