Holesaws

Hi,
Has anyone any tips or tricks for mitring CF tubes with holesaws?
What I’ve found so far is low feed speeds, high drill speed and rigid clamping are important.

Thanks

I cant really answer your question but I actually was watching this video just the other morning. Saw he was using a diamond coated hole saw. I dont know if youre using this type or a regular tooth type. But maybe this will be another idea.

Thanks, interesting video. Diamond saws might be worth a go. Using metal saws at the minute. I wonder what the forum thinks about using coolant - I’ve heard some reports that it’s best avoided.

For my project I’ve only had to cut one size of hole through some very thick solid laminate. I used a saw from these guys.

Super fast shipping and a very high quality bit designed for composites work.

Not sure if it’ll meet your criteria, but thought I might share.

Thanks for that. Yours looks like an interesting project, I’ll have to have a look in more detail.

Diamond tools will be your best friend for carbon. Once you get them you’ll throw away everything else.

Toothed holesaws work fine but diamond work a bit better and wont dull any time soon.

I have done alot of tube fitting to make frames for boat parts. One tool I bought specifically for this is an oscillating spindle sander. This is just used to sand hollow shapes at specific angles etc. I had to get my own sanding bobbins custom made and diamond coated. The bed of the machine is adjustable to any angle and I also added a fence to hold the tubes from moving sideways too.

Thanks all. I thought of a bobbin sander as I’ve had good success with sanding drums, but I hit a roadblock on the variable diameter spindles. I’ll probably go back to that later. So I’m using holesaws in the meantime. I’ll have a go with some diamond saws.

I am a convert to diamond saws. Amazing! Thanks everyone
