high temp resin? help

hey anyone know if theres any hitemp epoxy resin around that is rated for over 300 …

I have been making dirt bike pipe guard using cf and kevlar and the resin is geting to hot from the exhaust temp. even burning it alittle and making the cf yellow at the hottest spots.

would curing the cf and kevlar in highter temps?

I am currently trying diffrent methods right know so we ll see.

have you hit a heat sensor to find out what the exact target temp is you need? Or is 300 is a rough estimate. I make exhaust flanges out of composites that sit right next to exhaust manifolds and I use a VER rated at 225 degrees and it works fine

Get yourself a laser temp gun as they have come way down in price and are a great tool in racing to composites…

i would fully agree. I mess around with them and laser test my laminates to see what temps they are curing at. Plus if you are playing with VER pre-pregs and just cooking under Heat lamps it is a great tool for checking temps.

The pipe’s on the bikes can get very hot. in the night you can see the red glow at the head of the pipe. The temp on the pipe is probably high than 300

Is (VER) vinly ester resin?
isin’t epoxy resin have a hight rating than VER for temp?

The temp gun is comming, as with the budget. Just got a good vac pump for infusion.
I have a pic around here somewhere, The kevlar 50/50 is the layer against the metal, and is black from smoldering.

Epoxy has better heat deflection than VER overall. The hi-temp epoxy that I use can be serviced at over 330F with proper post curing. Most prepregs have higher heat tolerance up to 500-600F.

evan, I’m looking for a resin with a temp range of at least 250degrees… I Would prefer something with as little of a post cure as possible… any recommendations?

I have a high temp epoxy in stock that can handle up to 330F. You’ll need to post cure it for about 4 hours which is minimal.

Evan

what temp does it need to be post cured at? and how much does it cost?

You need to post cure it at 150 and gradually bring it up to 250. How much do you need?

not to sure yet as to how much I need… still trying to determine which parts I need the extra heat capacity for, etc probably around a gallon
