I did a google search with not a ton of luck. Was hoping someone on here could point me in a direction. I’m looking for an epoxy that can withstand more heat than your basic epoxy (which I hear about 350-400 degrees max. Is that about right?) but can be laid up and bagged the same way. Does it even exist or do high temp epoxies need special techniques? Thanks.
I’ve been searching for an epoxy that cures at RT and can withstand >200 °C for at least 2 years. I haven’t found one. They all need to be post-cured at elevated temps.
PTM&W has an infusion system with a Tg of 457°F. This material will cure with minimal heat but does need an ultimate post cure to achieve properties. I believe the product number is PT-2876
All epoxies with a high ultimate Tg need a postcure. The Tg will be just 20 degrees C max over max curing temperature.
Huntsman have a number of excellent high temperature epoxies, they will all require a high temperature postcure though to achieve the high temperature properties.
If epoxies are not high enough in Tg you could use cyanate esters but these will be even more expensive than the high temperature epoxies and are best cured using a vacuum as there can be issues with moisture sensitivity during cure.
As always, thanks for the input guys. I was looking along the line of dats_br where I was hoping to find something that would cure at room temp (I do have an oven that can get to about 130* that I will use for wings, hoods, etc to increase productivity) Its not really built to get much hotter than that tho.
Thanks again.
Ad-tech has a few selections of high temp epoxies.
