high elongation bagging film

Has anyone used it and what are your opinions?

I was looking at the film found here

One of my molds is a little complex and I spend way to much time achieving a good vacuum due to all the pleats and considered trying this for the first time. Due to the elasticity(sp?) would it force the same ammount of pressure on the laminate as regular nylon film assuming both were pulling the same ammount of vacuum pressure?

If you’re referring to the stretchlon green bagging film then yeah it stretches a lot. I’ve used a roll of it before but haven’t bought anymore since. It’s good as far as not having to make pleats, but it sucks as far as getting the bag to seal properly. The tiny folds that you get in your bag where the sealant tape goes are sometimes impossible to fix. With a normal bag I can just yank it out real quick and get it to lay down correctly against the sealant tape. With the stretchlon everything is permanent. Pulling it out is only going to stretch your bag and make it weak. I also notice that it doesn’t work well with anything other than epoxy. Vinyl and Poly tends to break it down, soften it, a little to the point where it’s very sensitive and prone to puncture. You definately cannot do infusion with this bag. As far as pressure goes, it pulls down tight enough but not as tight as the regular 2 mil nylon bag. If you’re not pulling anymore than 25"-27" of mercury then you’re fine.

thanks Evan, I’ll stay away from it then. second question, have you ever had nylon bags made to fit your mold? I would imagine it being very expensive.
