High Durablility Clear Coat

Hi Everyone,

I’ve been lurking here for a few months and want to start off by saying thanks for all the info and to everyone who makes this forum great.

Now to my issue. I am looking for a industrial quality clear that is either matte or satin (or can be knocked down to matte or satin from gloss).

Two issues I can foresee:
One, my parts take ALOT of abuse through general use so we’d like something of comparable durability to powder-coat so the metal parts wear similarly to the composite parts (probably a pipe dream).

And two, we are located in California and have already run into issues with paint not being able to be shipped here due to VOC laws and I assume clears could have the same problem.

Any ideas or hints on what to use or where to begin looking would be great. Also, this is for my job, so cost isn’t too much of an issue (but I would like to use an off-the-shelf product rather than something custom formulated).

Thanks!

Found this by searching abrasion resistant clear coat. I haven’t used it but I have used it before but I imagine that a floor clear would be a good starting point.

for some pretty interesting UV cure clears. These are what is used in laminate flooring production. Downside is the purchase of a UV lamp. I’ve seen this system in use and it’s pretty impressive. Also cut down on the finishing times.

Thanks for the links.

I also ended up finding flooring clear coats looking around the web as a possible option.

I’ll check out the uv cure stuff more on Monday. It’s always good to hear about positive experiences, and it seems like a good option from the cursory glance i gave it.
