Hi from darkest Leicesterxxxxe.

Hi… New here obviously. Been thrown into this line of work when a supplier let me down so now I have been doing some wet lay for a few months and had to make a few parts in pre-preg too…Looking forward to learning more and sharing my own work too… As good or bad as it is…lol

Welcome to the forums! Is that you Richard…? I’d recognize that photo of those monocoque units just about anywhere. Haha.

Great to have folks you like you on the forum!

Yep its me… haha… Still got some way to go but the more practice I get the better. I have one more seat/tank and fairing head unit to lay up this week… I say this week. It has to be laid up and in the oven by Wednesday!

Nice finish!!

Looking good. Welcome aboard.

Cheers!

Cheers guys… I guess necessity is not only the mother of invention, She is the mother of knowledge too… If the original supplier had not done such a shappy job of making the first kits I would never have spent time learning to do this work!

That is exactly how many new businesses are started.

It looks like it… I had been asked to make a part for a customer who had a similar let down to me and now I have been asked to do all of his work… I cannot complain about that… haha… But the good thing is I dont mind doing wet lay or Pre-preg. I just need to look into infusion and may give the MTI hose a try soon too… I have two very simple moulds that will be perfect for me to try that with…

Some of my wet lay parts too…

Thank you for your kind words and I hope to be doing a lot more composites work as my skills improve…lol.

Sorry the image is a little large… The lay up was not what I wanted to do but had no choice due to the material being supplied to me and I was not able to do a cosmetic finish. Also the mould was supplied by the customer and we are now making a new mould with a better surface finish…

It all looks pretty good to me!
And I mean, who ever heard of a carbon fibre snob? :stuck_out_tongue:

Cheers… You should have seen the mould… It seems (I was not there and had nothing to do with making it either…) the pattern part stuck in the mould and it left the paint from the pattern parts surface in there… It had to be sanded out and the sanding marks were still in there! But I was told it was only a test part and it was not a problem… Well it was actually a problem when I had to release it up as the surface was quite porous and I did have some sticking and the material supplied was quite narrow off cut material so it looks like a patch work quilt and not something I wanted to put my name too… But lets see if the new mould and fresh material gives me a part I can be proud of… haha…
