Hey Guys long time no talk

I need to find someone that is making some carbon fiber tubing for a project. I dont want to make the molds and really dont want to deal with it.

I need several feet of 3" O.D. 2X2 twill.

Any of you that have any or know where I can get it while not being ripped off, please let me know. I just want to avoid the time involved making the pipe.

So help a fellow composite guy out and hood me up!

you can try that site out. it looks like they only make up to 2" though. if you are making just a straight tube you wouldn’t need to make a mold just find a pipe that is the same diameter and then do your lay up on it.

that site sell the sleeve that you would need.

and this link shows you how to make the tubes.

I’ve purchased carbon tube from a couple of places with good results. I looked around for you for a bit and its tough finding places that offer larger than 50mm od.

I have never dealt with these guys, but I did find this place out of China that offers sizes up to and bigger than 75mm: http://www.bikudo.com/product_search/details/6209/carbon_fiber_pipe.html

has anyone ever ordered from that site before. i saw that they also had fabric and i wonder if it would be any cheaper.

thanks guys but I kind of know how to make it, was hoping that someone had been buying tubing from someone.

I have to have 3" I.D./O.D.

Im probably gonna just take a piece of 3" pvc pipe and some sheet wax and make me a clamp mold around it. I dont have any carbon sock material so that sucks, I guess Ill just have a seam on it.

I wonder how Ill go about pulling an infusion thru a tube mold. This should be interesting to say the least.

If anyone comes up with an idea, please let me know.

Hey Hybridracers, nice to see you here again:)

I want to make a 4-5" oval tube but i need high temp epoxy because it is an exhaust housing tube for my motorcycle.

What specs do you need like ie: tg, thickness of laminate, epoxy or polyester?, etc.

Or you can use a well waxed/release coated tube. Wrap wet fiber around it, and then wrap that in Dunstone heat shrink tape, or even just the reverse side of electrical tape with some holes poked in it.

Or prepreg.

i’ve never done a tube infusion…I’m sure just wrap spiral wrap around the ends for vent and inlet. Of course, that is on the OUTSIDE!

The inside might be tricky (cutting a pipe in half, ultimately takes away that material from the circle, and becomes 3" one way, and 2.80" the other way! But if the cut is perfect and smooth, a seam can be sanded out later if it’s noticeable.

Socks, check out www.braider.com. Min order is 15lbs though, but you might be able to score a sample if y ou are nice

Hey Fastrr, you dont need epoxy the outside temp of the muffler will never get hot enough to be a big problem.

hmmmmmm…I forgot about that technique you posted. Tell me Werk, how was the surface and finish on the tube after peeling? Did you and the students have to brush some resin on afterwards?

I just purchased from sollar composites. Im having some issues with my resin, so I haven’t been able to make any tubes yet, but the material looks good.

We used the same technique more or less. The shrink wrap leaves the surface not always perfect, along with a noticeable flash spiral. I never post-worked my tubes. I did once use peelply, and then the shrink wrap. Leaves the obvious surface, but then you can paint on some resin later.

SPeaking of…lordy I need some tubes. I have 2 nightstands, a coffee table, and er…longer table that needs some composite legs! All my tubes are random.
