Hey from Holland

Hi everyone,

I’m Henk from Holland and a newbe in the world of composites.
I work in a car damage company and in my spare time I have my own little shop where I do some restoration/customizing on cars and bikes (www.henkz.nl). I can make a lot from metal but I want to make some parts in composites, that’s why I’m reading/learning a lot at this forum.

Gr Henk

Hey Henk, Nederlander nummer 4 als ik me niet vergis!
I’m in cars too, I work at a car factory producing the carbon fibre parts (donkervoort) for now…
Lots of knowledge available here, and you can always send me a message, even in dutch if you like

Welkom

Okee, nice. But for now (at donkervoort)?

Gr

Yes, for now  I’m not really happy with my position over there, and they are not really happy with me  I’m thinking of doing more project based work, like the new car wich is publicly unvealed tommorow.

Hi Henk form Holland! Nicework man. What nare you looking to do for your first project?

I made a mold from an tank-cover for a streetfighter, and made one by weth-laying without vacuum and had some(many) pinholes. So my first project is making a nice pump setup. I saw a nice design in the topic of Thodollardug by http://www.joewoodworker.com/veneering/EVS/concept.htm
This is the mold:

Nice mold and nice part bro. Are you using a clear gel coat before you layup the part. Are you infusing?

No infusion yet, i brushed 1 thin layer resin en let it dray for a couple of hours 'till it was sticky, and then I laid the fabric.
I will go for vacuum or infusion but I’m going to do some test panels first

Gr Henk

Nice work man. Did you get any air bubbles or voids? Can we see more up close pics

Thanks, I had air bubbles in the first thin layer of epoxy and some dry spots in the first layer fabric. Then I sanded the part until the bubbles where at the surface and it became pin-holes. Next step was a layer of epoxy to see if I could solve some small problems. I sanded it down and will spray some clear coat on the part tomorrow.

Gr Henk

Awesome! Hope to see pictures.

Edit : more pictures :D.

This is with clear coat. At the top I had some big holes and mixed some epoxy whit Cotton Flocks.

Gr Henk

Next time you could use some black pigment to colour your mix with, that way it will be less noticable

Okee thanks, I have to paint this cover anyway, sow I’m going to that the next time.

Gr Henk

Really nice work Henk, I will start my first (test)infusion (I hope) this week. At this moment I am making the mould. As soon as I have some result I will post some pics. Lots of info on this forum but the more you read the more frightened I am to do my first infusion but… there is no way back, I already bought all the necessary.

Groet en succes, Max

Do not worry. Things are relatively simple, but you need to have some detailing right.

Post some pictures of the mould, and we will talk you through.

Sorry Herman, in this case I mean Henk about the nice work.

The photos are from a bracket to practice. (I think easy/straightforward.)
the fender is what my goal is… first I have to make a mold of it.

sorry Henk to mess up your thread, should I open a new thread?

Herman how to start the infusion? (of course I read about it but treat me as stupid…)
PVA is out of the question i think? (or should i just use PVA cause of my polyester mold) wax? I bought also “release agent” from easycomposites which worked well in the polyester mold.

the mold is polyester, probably not the best choice…

Car seat supports? And what fender?

Are you in Den Helder?

Den Helder…? no Im not in den Helder I am from a “lower” point in the Netherlands.

Old Porsche fender…?
