I am completely lost as to how to read it.:o

Dip the gauge in the coating. The last finger to get wet indicates your thickness.
And those are in Mils…at lest you didn’t buy the barrel one as it reads in what I don’t know!
Ive given up on the mil thickness gauges…I dont have anything that is that flat that I can use it.
I run the rule of thumb that I shoot it so that I think it looks heavy and then go just a little bit more…and then I guess its about right.
Shooting auto paint made me very apprehensive about thickness.
Then after awhile I just start figuring out what the amount of material is in weight …ie 100 grams or whatever and then just mix up that much…its my control factor.
barrel ones like this?

You should try the one i posted above. It is very small so it can fit into small areas.
i have never used a thickness gauge nor do I know how to use it lol. Once you get the hang of what is your perfect thickness it is pretty easy to duplicate it everytime
I figured it out.
For some reason I was thinking you dip it in lengthwise, but I just saw that all of the teeth are different lengths. Hence making hybrid’s post MUCH more valid
Thanks for the replys though. And I might just go and try that barrell guage. Looks like it works real well.
You know I think youre the man but Ill stick with just figuring out the weight of the right amount of material to use…
seems so much easier.
Although two days ago I forgot to catalyze my gelcoat…Had to lay a piece of tshirt in the mold and drip catalyzer on the shirt to kick the resin to get the majority of it out. Then I had to wipe it up with acetone…SUCKED!
Acetone has a funny ability to leave a haze on everything that you had polished until you buff it out with wax…
sorry for the thread jack
Actually, I just learned a good technique to kick resin if I ever forget to catalyze something.
It’s all about learning here!!!
