Hi from Winnipeg
I’m brand new to composites, and new to Composites Central as well. I’m a banjo maker, and I would like to skin a standard wooden banjo with carbon fiber. The body of the banjo (the pot) is essentially a wooden ring, 11" in diameter, 3.5" high, with a wall thickness of .75". I would like to skin the outside surface, around one edge, and the inside surface. For the neck, I would like to skin the back side and the peg head. I wouldn’t skin the fretboard.
I have some limited relevant experience; a few years ago I built wood kayak with a clear epoxy / fiberglass skin.
I’ve seen some carbon fiber wrap kits on line, but I have yet to find a Canadian dealer.
I’m looking forward to prowling around on this site and learning how I might go about my project.
A black carbon fiber banjo, with nickel-plated hardware would be quite a sight; I think I’ll call it the “blingjo”.
