Hello from Derbyshire, England

Hi everybody,

I’ve been working from home with composites and various wet-layup methods for the last few years now.
By profession I’m a race driver coach (I’d like to say a racing driver, but I have no drive this year.)
I got into composites out of necessity as I’m building a one-off racing car based on a Mazda RX-7 with bespoke bodywork.

Welcome to the forums!

Welcome along alex, whats your name? I used to race ALOT, now work as an engineer and run a Small composites company in the UK.

Ooh ooh! I’m into rx7’s what generation are you using? I have some FC rear overfenders I’m going to take moulds from one day.

Since all you racing Brits are in this thread I figured I should ask all these burning questions I’ve had for a while.

First off RacerAlexUK sorry for hijacking this thread. I hope you don’t mind!

I’m looking for Masters programs in the UK and I found three motorsports engineering programs at Brunel University, Cranfield University and Oxford Brookes University. Have you heard good things about any of these programs? Also do you if these programs appreciably help advance careers in Motorsports engineering? At 15k euros just for tuition this is a heavy decision.

Also in addition to designing the vehicles I’ve been itching to start racing, something I’ve never been able to do due to paranoid parents. However I figure 22 is a great time to start my career F1 driver . Which one of these universities is the best positioned for weekend racing?

Cranfield is probably the best place for a stepping stone into high end mtorsport, it is also in motorsport valley in the uk, within about 30 mins drive of silverstone, 15 mins drive from red bull racing, 45 mins from Mercedes GP and 45 mins in the opposite direction for Mercedes HPE.

It’s pretty much central in the uk.

Stuart

PS Sorry for jumping in Alex have you got any pics of your car so far, and what racing have you been doing ?
