Hello from Chico, CA

Hello everyone,

I might as well introduce myself since I have replied to a few threads on here already.

I am a student at CSU, Chico studying Mechatronic Engineering. I have always had an interest in composites but I am now starting to get really get some experience under my belt.

I am a member of the University’s FSAE team. This is our first car that we are taking to competition in Lincoln, NE. It should be an interesting experience. I got a lot of my experience with composites by being a member of this team. We constructed a large nosecone that turned out pretty well for a team with little composites experience.

I hope to use this forum to learn a lot and provide as much help as I can.

Welcome.

Just the other day I was talking to some students at Spruce aircraft who were on UCI’s team. Wish UCR had that program back when I was in school-I would’ve switched majors in a heartbeat!

Welcome!

Sounds like your in a good direction. Two of my coworkers went to chico for engineering and now work with composites. I"ve heard good things about that school.

Well this is a good place to learn and ask questions!

Welcome!

@Sammymatik, Do you work at Zee.Aero?

Here are some pictures of the Formula SAE car I have been building. We took her out for the first time on a Karting track in Davis. Had a lot of fun and learned a lot!

Nosecone is 3K 2x2 fiberglass with a 1/8" particle board core along the top surface. The whole team learned a lot about composites processes and we are looking to expand the number of composites parts on the next car.

Cool build.
We have assisted in college car builds as paid vendor / sponsorship.
If I could give you some advice.
The engineering team should contact the marketing / business school.
Let them practice their trade getting money promoting the engineering team to design and build this project. Share the glory with all who participate when complete.

Networking is vital. Get corporate financial, intellectual, partnering sponsors.
These will be the people who employ you or do business with you when you are done with school.

Welcome! I was on the Formula Hybrid team at Cal Poly Pomona a couple years back. Everyone here helped me tremendously with the composite parts we built for that vehicle as well!
