Head lights -> Ram Air

Hey,

I’m doing some stuff for a friend.

The idea is to have an air admission on the head light for a BMW E36.

I’m thinking of getting a mold off the headlights, then build a cone inside the mold. Other idea is to get a 1st part just like a headlight cover and build a finished part wiht the cone on the inside, so i can get a new mold after that.

What you think?

Like many things you are often better off making a splash mould from the origional then make a part from that that you can then modify to what you want.

When you are making your pattern for the intake it is very important that you remember the draft angles on the piece. If you dont you will end up not being able to take the parts or even the pattern off the mould!

On a slighty different note it is important that you do not use to larger size hose on the back of the inlet. Too large and the airspeed through the hose will be too slow and the air temperature will rise and you will loose any benefits that the ram air intake may give you.

Could you also resize the picture as it is exceptionally large please

Thanks for your advice, and nice note in the end. Actualy it makes sense, almost obvious. Its up to my friend now.

Another hipotesis was to buid the cone separated, atach to the headlight cover afer that, chop the rest and use a bit of filler.

What’s a splash mould? Sorry for the dumb question I’ve just never heard of one.

Might want to do some reading about velocity stacks to understand how they work before you try and make one.

Nevermind. It just clicked that slush molding is probably very similar to slush casting!

splash mold just implies a quick mold, usually just fiberglass and epoxy or PE/VE.

Sorry a splash mould is just a thin mould that you might only get one or two items out of. Usually just used for repairs or oneoffs

No need to apologize! I apologize for my lack of knowledge. I have still have a lot learning to do :smiley:

Im not sure that ‘splash mould’ is a proper term, just what I have always refered to them as and I have heard quite a few ppl call them that.

all my work for my pulsar
