Hayabusa Carbon Fiber Tank cover

My friends,

the last week I finished the tank cover panel for Suzuki Hayabusa. This is the first time that I make it and is of course much cheaper to sell it. The people that didn’t wont to buy full tank, this choise is the best, here’s some photos and of course I wait your opinion:

The photo above is the inside photo

Very nice work George  How did you get the stripes to all line up on the Hayabusa?

For those of you who do not know what i’m saying… the gas tank striped line up perfect with the stripes on the rest of the body panels he made for this motorcycle.

Ohh thx Fastrr,

yes the stripes is like “V” and is going back with outside direction. All the bikes I mede it with this way. For the rest of the people I have to say that you must find a way of your work looks better. I decide it to make all my parts with “V” stripes.

That looks excellent.

Did you infuse this part or was it overlay?

Everythink I done is infused:D . I infuse everythink very small parts to huge parts. I think is the most clearly way I know.

not that I believe in overlays/covers at ALL for bikes, but…

Oh
My
God.

that is smeggin’ amazing!!!
I’d buy one.
just to have.

george, does the shape of the tank not make it difficutl to get the cover out of the mold when it’s done? It looks like it curves back on itself…

Very nice, good job.

The truth is that before I make it I was wondering about the size, you see if you make it exactly as it is then you can’t match it very well. So I decided to increase the tank for about 5-6mm more in the center of the tank. The results I can’t tell you yet, in the end of this week I will install it. So, will see

Very nice!

How much lighter in weight is this cf than polyester fiberglass?I might have to build some a for couple of mini-sprints.Can a mold be used that was being used for pfg?BTW tanks look bad a$$

The carbon is more flexible more stronger and more lighter than Poly. This tank cover is 1 layer of Carbon and 1 Layer poly. The weight hmmmmmmmm …this is tank or a feather?

One question what is pfg? sorry

nice

what gel coat did you use ?

George, did you use a one piece mold, or a 2 piece mold? Thanks.

The gel coat is Polyester not Epoxy. Most people think that is epoxy.:stuck_out_tongue:

I use two pieces. First I finish the left side and then the other side. After cure I take them out from the mold and I make all the necessary cutting and sants. Then I connect the two molds again but this time with 5-6mm distance between them. This happen because we need to be more bigger than the original. Then I put again to the molds the already panels inside and I put some stickers in the cornet to keep them in the correct position.

Finally I put geal coat again to the mold but this time in the area of free 5-6mm space. After cure carbon and all the rest you know it.

Here’s the new pics for the tank cover:

realy nice job george
