Like the title states, has anyone made a mold from an ABS plug? Would I be OK with just wax and pva? Will it hold up to the heat of the gelcoat? Any BTDT is much appreciated.
the heat from the gel coat wont be a problem. If you pile on the laminate too thick that may overheat it. The biggest problem is if you have any hole, a rip or fish eye in the pva layer the gel coat will react with the abs.
OK thanks. That’s good to know. I am usually pretty cautious with my layup schedule (one .75 oz layer after gel has hardened, and then 1 to 2 layers a day over the next 3 or 4 days).
I use abs for plug making all the time. Just like he said watch the heat from the laminate. don’t do more than one layer of cloth or CSM for every 2 to 3 hours of time. wax and release coat the abs before.
