Has anyone anodized their aluminum molds?

I have a buddy that anodized his aluminum molds. The release seemed difficult it also seems like there was a little bit of a texture to the anodized finish. Can you polish it? He was using watershield and the sealer that goes with it. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Hello,

you can not polish them if they are annodized. You will always have a little matt finish/texture. But release should work better and easier (my experience).

anodised moulds are harder, so more durable. However, as odd as it seems, anodised moulds are more porous, that is what a possible dye penetrates into. Make sure your anodisation layer is sealed properly (cook in water for a couple of minutes, or even an hour if the part is large) and use a good mould release sealer.
