Guitar Cases

My name is Jonathan Razo, and I new to this forum. I am a luthier and build custom guitars, you can see some of my work at www.razoguitar.com. I have been contemplating the idea of building my own carbon fiber guitar cases for some time now. I finally came across this very useful site, I am interested in finding someone with more knowledge and experience to help make the shells for me or guide me.

I am completely new to composites, so any and all information would be helpful! if you, or anyone you know might be interested in taking on such project, PLEASE let me know.

here are some pics of the what im after.

Thanks in advance,
Jonathan

My knowledge is very limited in this topic, that being said you would probably want only the outer layer carbon fiber and and inner layers kevlar or something else that has more give as a guitar case gets allot of beating and while carbon fiber is extremely strong it doesn’t do well with repeated beatings.

If i am wrong please correct me.

You only want the visual of carbon for the looks anyways so doing more than a later or two is a waste.

I think your biggest hurdle is the hardware. Building the shell would new easy enough to do but coming up with the clamping gasket and proper hinges could be difficult.

Beatings are beatings are beatings. Carbon is no better or worse than anything else with impacts. Kevlar is best in fabric form as the COMPOSITE is the resin used. There is a lot of misunderstanding about composites and where they are stronger and lighter.

hybridracers brings up a good point about the hardware. As long as you have a mold made for the case it’s pretty basic. The inside also has to be custom built to each guitar which mean padding, structure to hold the neck/body in place and possibly upholstery depending on how deep you want to get into it. We can help you out with the mold building and lay up but the hardware and other components are something we don’t deal with.
