Greetings from Australian motorbike fanatic

Hi Folks,

Just joined up to the forum because I am anticipating the need for some help and advice from the knowledgeable people here!

A bit about me: I first became interested in composites for use on motorcycles. Fibreglass race fairings are very common, with carbon fibre being used in the higher end (read “more expensive”) racing series like WSBK and MotoGP. I started to experiment with fibreglass to make a pillion seat cowl on my GSX-R. I made the plug out of expanding foam and body filler, which turned out pretty good. I then made the mold and it turned out all fine! I just never got around to making the actual part because it would have been fiddly to make a mechanism to fit into the seat lock… so my first composites project stalled there, but I may come back to that…

I did love making composites though, and now I have another bike project on the go with possibly an ideal opportunity to make some more composites! So I am thinking that I’d really like to give carbon fibre a shot, a bit of bling never went astray on a motorcycle…

The composite parts I am thinking of are mainly bodywork. If I do go that route I’ll be making up some custom bodywork as well. A bit of custom bling, even better! I’m also thinking of a sidestand (some others may know them as a kick stand), but that will need a thread of it’s own when I get around to it…

So that’s me… I’ll be seeing y’all around the forum!

Cheers,

Conrad
