GMT: Gotta Make it Twice. A boat I worked on purchased a full set of parts from GMT, a mast, boom, spinnaker pole and reaching struts. Every piece except the mast needed to be replaced due to construction issues before the boat ever sailed. And then the mast broke on the first leg of the first race it ever sailed…

Very interesting…

Makes me nervous thinking about those aluminum tools getting stuck inside the carbon… but I guess that’s why I’m not building boat parts! :stuck_out_tongue:

With prepregs it isn’t such a problem, a cure on high temp. expands the aluminium, and when it cools down it shrinks harder then the carbon part around it.

Am I wrong or they said to cure the prepreg for four hours at 50°C.?
No prepreg will ever fully cure at such time and temperature.

Very cool. I’d like to see them bind and trim the parts.

121 celcius (250 F) I believe is what he said

At around 4 minutes into the video he says they are compressing it under vacuum to 26-28lbs of pressure.
Where is this factory? I reckon you would have to be about 40,000 feet below sea level for the air pressure to be that high!
perhaps he is just on another planet?
