Give this new guy some advice?

Hi, my name is rob and I’m really new to fiberglass and carbon fiber. I have my first serious mould coming up that I’m making for a car part. Would some experts mind giving me free advice on all the noob mistakes I should avoid and help explain the proper steps to making a great solid mould and also how to create my part without ruining them. Just from 10 min of reading here Im afraid of fish of fish eyes and gatoring and I don’t even know what that means. I just want my parts to come out ok.

22 ex usaf guy just looking for some help.

first off welcome to the forum. there are a few really informative videos and articles that will help give you an idea where to start. im posting from my phone so im not much help. but give us some information on what your project is about and its on from there. cheers mate

There’s a lot of technique, skill and sometimes luck that goes into composites. Your first parts won’t come out perfect.

Just go through the forums, read tutorials and PRACTICE. You’ll mess up, figure out what the problem is, then find the solution here. That’ll happen a few times until your parts come out great.

Out of curiosity where do you live?

Sorry I’m posting from my phone as well. I’m from california and the part is the grill off my 2006 charger the crosshair part.

and look up some vids on youtube, give’s some idea on how to work with the materials. A good book is competition car composites. A lot of material comparissons, a lot of information, and some practical things too.

And then: start simple. You’ll do a lot wrong, and a lot of things won’t come out good the first time, but practice makes perfect
