FYI....No automotive spray paint to be sold.....

Ok, I was at an consulting account of mine and a buddy there tells me that Calif. is going to end sales of all automotive spray paint to the general public! Only to quailfied auto paint & body repair shops!

This is being pushed forward by the Automotive body repair centers assoc. lobbists!

This will be mandated USA wide as soon as possible too!

Can anyone out there ask their paint supplier or confrim if this is true or not?

I might try and call a painting teacher that I might have his home #, but I’d like to hear it from others too!

FYI: If this is true, maybe stock up on clear paints…I wonder if freezing it will hurt it or not?

uh oh. Make friends with someone in Canada.

They have been trying to get rid of the backyard body shops for years. Once they get away with it the price of a paint job will go even higher.

Here in Ohio, they were talking about putting a limit on how much you can buy, that way the guys building there own street rods and things can still get paint for the cars they build.

that wont ever pass…if follows under the OBD-II laws.

If you make is so that no one can get this stuff it causes unfair competition practices.

Even if they did use the EPA stuff as a way to scapegoat it, more harm is done from people dumping antifreeze in the yard than the few people painting. I see gallons and gallons of antifreeze and oil on shelves still.

How do you become a “qualified auto paint & body repair shop”?

Thats the whole problem…there is no real qualification to do anything automotive related!

You can be a total moron with a fischer price tool kit and open a shop.

But you have to be licensed and bonded to be a plumber.

Ive struggled with this for a loooong time in the motorcycle industry. I see so much hacking by the time people bring their bikes to me I dont even want to do the fixing work!

all you need is a state tax ID to be a business. that’s just a couple of forms away

haha that would suck…hahaha send your parts to me …:)Not a problem here in Canada well…hm not a problem right now but we will see.

My thinking besides having a business, you will need to have an ARB license too and they aren’t easy or cheap either!

There has been talk of that here (canada) too, It’s currently being pushed by the body shop lobby, It’s good for registered business. Time to make good freinds in either shops or supply houses that will side deal for you. It all depends on how far they go, it could end up like R12 where you have to have a licence to buy and keep track of all the documentaion of where it went.

I was going to ask my buddy that was teaching the GGROP auto body class, but with the recent ROP shake up coming, he decided he wanted a change and left!:o

I just remember I gave him a bunch of VW Bug deck lids for his students to practice working and painting them for in shops displays. I better get over there to see if they still are there or NOT!

In our business we have succesfully extended the shelf life of various expoxies and paint by placing them in either a fridge or freezer.

We have even placed a catalysed epoxy paint in the freezer overnight and used it the next day!
