full aramid or carbon-aramid hybrid

I would like to start using aramid layer/layers (probably as middle layer) in my composites for safety reasons. I dont want it for apearance. Have carbon-aramid hybrid some advantages over full aramid layer? I would like to buy 170gsm twill aramid instead of hybrid twill because of high price (3times more expensive) at my supplier. Rest of the layers will be carbon 3K twill 200gsm. I will use aramid only inside the part so I will dont have to cut it when cutting part. Thanks,

Mike

It will def. help with flexure properties.

Aramid doesn’t bond well to the matrix like carbon or glass does (one of the reasons it’s good for ballistics and is so hard to sand nicely). By weaving with another fibre, the other fibre ‘holds’ the aramid in the matrix.

thanks guys

Depending on what properties you need, then you might need to add alot more layers to equal plain kevlar fabric.

Take a look at Innegra S. We are using in in a lamination schedule in lieu of aramid. I plan to use carbon and Innegra S in a boat build.

only if you keep the kevlar it in tension, right?
