Hello, I want to make a motorcycle mudward. Should make a one part or 2 part mould?

2 part mold, it will be easier to unmold the piece
I make that mudguard in a one piece mould. It comes off easily.
Hello, have you posted pics of your project? I am interested to see it.
The original is make in 3 parts, the center and the sides.
I think it’s easer to apply layers on the mould and you reduce the consumption of the fabrics.
But if I make the mould in three part is the same if I make in one part, the only advantage is to came off easy the piece. Or do you mean to make the piece in three parts and bond later?
That would easily come out of a one piece mould… here is a hugger I made which is almost the same shape and I have done one or two front mudguards all from a one piece mould…

Ok but yours you have only one hole for the screws on the side.
On the heiwaz mudguard’s, I think it’s a Ducati 848 or 1098 standart mudguard, you have two holes on each side . It’s a critic area to apply the fabric.
For me it’s better to make in 3 parts like the original.
In 1 part you can demould, it’s not a problem but it’s easier to apply layer, more sure to not have tensions and less consumption of fabric.
@heiwaz: It’s 1 mould in 3 parts that you join. In first you put layers on each parts of your mould and let more fabric on the side panel where the parts going to join and reassemble your mould.
What technic do you use ? Infusion, wet layer … ?
I have not had a problem making a few front mudguards from one piece moulds. But a 2 or 3 piece mould would help define changes in profile or creating a symetrical change in the weave. A 2 peice mould would be perfect if you wanted to have a Herring bone pattern down the centre. As well as help with lay up in awkward areas too…
I have just got on with moulds I was given to work with and worked to what the customer wanted if I could.
I probably use infusion, but I need to improve my vacuum pump because I have some air bubles in the last piece I make with wet layer.
Have you got any pics of the 3 part mould, or of the process? thanks for your reply.
