fridge pump and other qs

i’ve got 3 questions for you guys.
First off,
Is it possible to do vac infusion on small parts with a refridgerator vacuum pump?

will seran wrap dissolve when exposed to vinyl-ester resin?

and lastly,

what is the difference between a gel and tooling resin and can tooling be used as an outer layer?

1 i use a fridge pump for all my infusions. Best thing going for it is its extremely quite and you can find leaks real easy.

2 yes and no, yes if the resin gets too hot, no if you just use it to cover over something but sanding out all the little ripples is a pain

3 tooling resin is alot harder than reg gel coat. chips easier.

As above,
Yes
Yes and no but use HD PE film from Home depot is better
I need to retype pages about the different resins (in the product section about resin metrixs…) but the month they gave me to remove my 14 years of equipments, tools and suppliers ended up less than 1 Day before they started throwing stuff out…

where do you guys find the fridge pump? I’ve been looking for one, but no luck, and also what kind of fridge pump should I look for?

Any appliance repair shop / scrap yard or for a new one try the shop across Ball St. from Grainger’s (near Lewis st.)or the other electric type suppliers near the old rail road tracks.

do you need to remove the freon from the refrigerator compressor? or it’s just like regular vacuum pump?

the appliance place HAS to remove the freon by law I think. Also, if you plan on ripping one out of an old fridge don’t just cut the lines, take it to a place that can recover the freon.

Look for one that doesn’t have thermal shut down protection, if you get one with that feature do try to disable it. If its left intact the thing will shut down pretty frequently and most likely while your in the middle of an infusion

If you have an air compressor a venturi type vac pump can be obtained very cheaply, and will work fine if you have a reasonable size compressor.

When a pump is in the fridge, in a closed system, there is refrigerant present. But a pump bought alone would not have that, as it is in gaseous form at STP.

All you do is hook into the vac line, and start sucking.
