Well it can be a bit tricky to diagnose because there can be SO many things that cause it. How have you stored the Frekote? Is it in its original container? Is the container damaged at all? When you’re applying it, do you put the lid back on straight away or do you leave the lid off the container while you apply it? All these things can lead to contamination and accelerated degeneration of the chemical, which will affect its performance. As long as it is in an air-tight container and exposed to air for as short a time as possible when applying it, then the polymer should simply stay suspended in the solvent indefinitely.
The other most common errors I find lead to problems are application errors. Applying the coats too heavy can cause it to perform poorly, as it actually lowers surface tension so much that it won’t stick to itself, it will bead up and then evaporate meaning you actually only get streaks of coverage on your mould surface.
Buffing is another common error, it’s very easy to remove the product by buffing it. You shouldn’t need to buff the surface at all after applying the coating, just wipe it on and let dry and you’re good to go an hour later. If you are getting a residue that you need to buff off, then you’re making a mistake somewhere. Either application is too heavy, your mould isn’t clean, or you aren’t wearing gloves and the solvent is dissolving the grease on your hands and depositing it onto the mould.
How many coats are you applying? How long are you leaving it between coats/prior to applying resins? Is it very warm or very cold when you are applying it?
