Frekote NC700

Is $29 per gallon a good price on that? I’d rather have NC-770. But I can’t find it for that kinda price anywhere. Only issue is it’s on Ebay from EliteMotors. I’ve heard issues from them? Are they ok now?

Any other place to order single gallons cheap?

What’s the difference? Get the cheaper one if it works.

I guess true. I was more concerned about the persons selling it, as it seems they have had some issues in the past.

Hmmm. Either I read the listing wrong or they changed it. It’s not a gallon. It’s a quart. So not such a great price.

What is the going rate for that stuff? I’m willing to try something comparable. I’m oven curing my stuff so needs to take a little heat.

Soller sells 770nc for 20 bucks a quart, plus shipping.

I bought mine in the quart from EliteMotoring with no issues. Has anyone ever used wax over the frekote sealer and release? I just had a little difficulty pulling my part .75m x 2m, which popped out nicely with wax and pva before.

I knew I saw it somewhere else cheap, but didn’t remember where, thank you.

One thing I’d like to know about. Does the aerosol version work just as well as the liquid version?

700 is more industrial like filament winding… Either will work, a gloss finish is possible with both.

I would say no to trying wax. Without knowing more about your geometry, process, mold surface, application; I would say something went wrong in the process. When a semi perm is used parts are extremely easy to fairly easy to release.

Short answer yes. But you take the risk of getting over spray on everything else. IMO get the quart and apply by hand because you get a lot more for your money.

I’ve used Soller Composites with GREAT results every time.

Yes, I’ve ordered from them as well before, and looking like I will again. Packed well, good products was exactly what I was expecting.

For sure. Honestly, I feel like meguiars mold release #8 wax gives the easiest releases. I use 770nc in my production process because of its ease of use, but a single application (on a well seasoned mold, at least) of #8 with a buff after just 2 minutes in RT conditions offers a better release than a semiperm, IMO. Don’t get me wrong, they’re but very close - the semi perm is still easy as hell - I just feel that you cant really beat a good wax since it also has gap filling properties. With #8, I can get the part to pretty much just fall out of the mold if I turn it over and hit it once or twice.

Plus, wax doesn’t go bad, as opposed to a semiperm which will if you leave it in the heat for too long. I ruined two molds before I realized what was going on, thanks to my 770nc going bad :mad2:

Yeah, I’ve got the wax to. I was just needing something else quick and easy that works on almost any surface. I’ve used it in the past and know how it acts.

I almost decided to get some Zyvax, but it’s a lot of “change” to drop on something that may not work.

Wait, how do I use the nc700? I was planning on waxing my mold and then using the spray into the mold. Is this not right? Trying to get a perfect finish.

Clean the mould thoroughly with mould cleaner or just soap and warm water. Then apply the Frekote. Wipe the residue off after each coat, just gently. Then if you feel the need you can wax over the top but you don’t have too.

Freekote on wax does not work! The solvent in the freekote will dissolve the wax. Combined you will get release problems.
Clean your mold very well and only use the Freekote.

You can also use the freekote sealer first, on finished mold.

Usually I would make the mold, clean it, use the sealer, then use the nc700 release. I just did use the aquiline sealer, also from the freekote line, not sure about it yet but a water based solution would be nice. Nc700 is not good for you… so be sure to wear respirator, have ventilation, and wear gloves. It eats up gloves, so change them if you’re handling it for any amount of time. The nc700 also come in pre-soaked wipes that are supposed to be much lower in VOCs than the can or spray can.

does frekote works on aluminum molds ?

if you freekote after washing a mold out with water and do not cook off all the water it is the best surface prep for bonding I have ever used. Water and FREEKOTE = BAD things also you need to use a freekote sealer like B-15
