I see some guys don’t use flow medium over the entire surface of the lay up? Is that to save money or to improve the infusion?
From what I’ve come to understand it depends on a lot of factors, size of the part, viscosity of the resin, time to gel, fabric etc. Some fabrics flow just fine on their own, bi & triaxials appear to need no media. Although I don’t have any practical experience yet I’ll be trying a few methods soon.
yeah it all depends, my biaxle I use if I did no flow media it would stop traveling about halfway through the infusion. A lot of continuous strand mats you need little flow media. Alowing you resin to flow a little slower helps the resin penitrate all the layers completly. If you infusion is so fast that the resin will only penitrate the first 1 or 2 layers and then you cut the resin off when it is done and to find out you have dry spots because there is not enough resin in the part
How about 2x2 twill stacked in 2 layers with a layer of kevlar? Cover the entire part in green flow medium? What if the part is small, say 1ft x 1ft area?
Like i say, i’m here to learn and if i can avoid costly and time consuming mistakes that is great.
