Flange idea?

Since I am holding off till I get semi-perm mold release…

I am working on a front motorcycle fender.
I want to make a few inch flange around the bottom, so I have some working room…how do you suggest I do this easily so I don’t mess up the actual part in the mold.
I right now have plastic tape around the bottom edge…however, it also makes the bottom of the fender kinnda ugly.

tape on the other side, would make the piece hard to get out of the mold.

hmm

Here’s a pic of Evans fender mold, to give you an idea of how to do your flanges…

Evan, is that tape you used to hold your flanges together? If so what tape did you use?

posterboard shiny side up. Lamination film works really well too.

I have been using cardboard and it just does not like to me  I am going to try posterboard today, you just wax it like normal right?

pva.

I use card board too. Hot glue to hold the carboard in place. The tape lines that you see is aluminum tape. It doesn’t bond to the tooling gelcoat and it leaves a nice surface. Wax and PVA works, but the final surface of the flange comes out pretty rough and it’s hard to clean once you get resin and other junk stuck on there. The aluminum tape leaves the flange surface porous free.

like the tape they use on heating ducts?

wow killer idea (runs to walmart)

Yes sir. I get them @ Lowes.

Hmm…

ideas at least. But, I’m always paranoid that I won’t be able to pull the piece out. That is why I wanted to have a vertical (to the sides) flange, so I can wedge it out, and get lots of part release.
if i have side flanges, how well will the part pull out, if I can only wedge the horz. flanges?

or is the semi-perm mold release THAT good?

I think side flange always work better.

more later, I have to get back to work

ooh my favorite store. can’t believe I didn’t think of that on my own.

I took a short video of myself demolding a part last night. As soon as I get a chance to compress it I’ll upload it for you to see how easy it was.

If you need some free poster boards and want to help out with litter, just take down some ELECTION posters after the election or better yet …NOW!

woohoo. heehee

So, hotglue posterboard to the bottom, semi-perm mold release the fender, PVA the other crazy parts/poster board, and…well…mold?

I can do that.

well…need a hot gluegun though.

Ain’t that a felony… if the live in the socalist republic of california, you take down 3 signs, three strikes, go to jail for live…

I just snagged a one out of my yard, well the side of the road that I still own, they did not ask me to put it there. Parrish for commissioner it says. Parrish for flanges now

so did you PVA the foil tape at all?

that is pathetic, since most of the time, the damn party people don’t take down their own signs after the election!!

maybe just DURING the election it is illegal?
