First Wet Lay-Up

Honda motorcycle side panel. This was using a male mold so the inside came out shiny and outside dull with a peel ply surface. Lots of work left to do to finish it. I need to add 2-3 more layers of cloth on the backside of the part to add strength. I only did one layer of 6oz fiberglass cloth and one layer of dual twill carbon, because tolerances are close on this part, extra materials have to be added after it was pulled from the mold.

I learned a couple things… i got about 15 small wrinkles in the laminate:o

Any tips or suggestions are welcomed.

wrinkles suck. usually its one of a few things or many things combined that cause them. first thing is to not use too much resin, that is number one mistake, excess resin will cause serious wrinkles not to mention other problems. second is to be sure your peel ply is wrinkle free. next is very important, make sure your bleeder is wrinkle free and you put cuts in it where it will wrinkle after its bagged. breather also can cause wrinkles if it gets stretched alot, usually not a problem, but its always best to put cuts in it in strategic spots. lastly is to do a nice neat wrinkle free bag with perfect pleats.

I think it was the peel ply and needing a couple relief cuts in stratigic areas in the c/f and f/g. I have to make 3 more of these panels so hopefully i it comes out much better on the next one.
