First Vacuum Infusion

Well i’m getting ready for my first confusion… i mean infusion.

I have my fabric all layed into the mold, the mold has been waxed well beforehand. The outside edges of the flange measures about 13"x17" flat rectangle. I cut a piece of peel ply leaving a 1/2" space of left over flange all the way around. I then cut some green resin flow medium to cover 2/3rds of the part ( not 2/3rd’s of the entire mold). So now do i just set up my sticky tape, bag, resin flow line, and vacuum line?

Just want to make sure i don’t mess something up by doing it wrong.

yea, and make sure your bag/material doesnt bridge, and there is no bag leaks at all! a good way to check to see if you have no leaks is to pull full vacuum, then disconnect your vacuum and see how long you keep vaccum pressure, if bag pressure starts dropping quickly you have a leak. you should be able to keep it disconnected for 10-15 minutes with out losing pressure. good luck

I set up my vacuum outlet and resin inlet lines next. Lay out the sticky tape after that. Trickiest part is getting the pleats across the part at right angles. This prevents the resin flowing along the creases up the part. Once your bag is on draw it down and check for leaks. I keep a tube of “acoustical sealant” handy for stopping leaks. It works well but is messy as hell. Once you get it to hold a decent vaccum turn the resin loose! It’s a cool process to watch for a newbie! I still get a kick out of it!

Good luck and post some pics.
