first infusion tip

so i tried my first infusion the other day after trying to do some flat carbon sheets with conventional wet layup , but always getting some sort of imperfection in the piece

if you havnt tried infusion on a part where it is possible , i HIGHLY recommend it if you need a great cosmetic looking part

my sheet 1000x350 of 200gsm plain weave carbon and a layer of 80ish gsm glass came out PERFECT ! even though i had a leak

and this is the point of the thread … you have read how important a leak test is , IT IS !!

i knew i had a really small leak, but i couldnt find it , so when i clamped up i lost vacuum … the thing is when i did a test it held vacuum for a good 15-20 mins , but after infusing maybe 30-60seconds later and the bag started showing signs of slack

i guess i was just fortunate that my piece came out great ( i layed another bag over and bagged again) but now i know , if there is the slightest leak , it turns into a nightmare !

Sounds like you double bagged the part. That is the easiest way to get around a leaking bag. The problem I have is having the guts to pull the trigger on using up another bag

Buying consumables in bulk is the way to go…

My bagged parts keep vacuum for few weeks. If it only keeps vacuum for minutes it has a leak.
And that it is loosing vacuum within seconds after infusion is normal when you have a leak because after infusion there is no vaccum
Physics of infusion. Read the MTI and the double bag thread, there is everything explained.
