First attempt at epoxy mold, few questions

I have some modelling clay i purchased from walmart. Will this be okay to use with the epoxy surface coat? I have seen some special clays used when doing an epoxy mould.

Ill take pictures of the plug once it is done but heres aanother question:

I was sanding some primer off of the original part, should i sand all the original paint+ primer off to expose the steel metal?

Should i just spray a layer or two of primer down to make a nice smooth even blend?

Because i have run into fitment issues before with this part, I was thinking of snading the sides completely down to the raw metal finish to reduce the thickness as much as possible. Is this going to cause problems?

Hey Ya’ll help Bigmans out  He’s wanting to stiffen up an epoxy mold he’s gonna build…what is the best way to do that? But he thinks a few layers of paint is going to affect his tolerances?

bigmans my Walmart modeling clay works great for epoxy mold making… it’s just a pain in the rear to clean it off the new mold is all. for that i use a wooden popsicle stick and a metal pick that i’m very careful with. Then dishsoap and water to remove the remainder of the clay.
