Fire Retardant Resin

Is there anyone with any experience of fire retardant resin? We are making parts for trains which must be fire retardant, we mix our own resin, I shall post additives and amounts tomorrow.

I am using a chopper gun to lay up the moulds. The problem that I am having is that the resin seems to be curing patchy. When green trimming I notice that some areas are very hard yet others are still extreamly wet. Another problem is that it may appear hard enough to green trim but the under side closest to the mould surface is still wet and so tears away from the gel coat when trimming, damaging the product finish.

We have just added a constant mixer as the resin seemed to be separating not so long after the morning mix up.

Again I shall post the details of our mixture tomorrow, but if anyone has any ideas on how I can stop this I would be extreamly greatful!!

I’m no expert on spray layups, I tried it for a while and had the same problems. metering is a real issue on some systems, It got to the point thatI had to have someone watching anad adjusting the gauges as I was spraying. I sold the system and went back to hand layup. I then sorta drifted away from even that for a while but am building some new molds for new products that will be all hand layed or possbly infused to reduce odor and increase fiber to resin ratio
