Filling in the gaps

I’m trying to put my parting boards on my wing mold, but I’m having clay issues. The trailing edge comes to a point, obviously. So I have it butted up against the parting board, but the board isn’t exactly perfect (nor is the plug absolutely perfect), so I’m trying to fill the gap with clay. But the clay keeps falling through and rolling over onto the underside of the plug. It’s driving me crazy. And if you look at the plug wrong, it will move every so slightly, and the clay will lose grip with the pointed edge and fall through.

What should I do? Thanks.

Okay, I figurd it out. I put painter’s tape under the wing and parting board to build a little catch shelf. Worked pretty good. My gaps are filled and are flat with the parting board.

Alternative if you have gaps between flange/parting plane and your plug: painters or clear tape over the plug, then fill gap with bondo. Then remove the part, peel the tape, clean up the bondo. Should have a pretty good fit after that. With that it’s a pretty minimal amount of clay needed around the flange.

That’s a great idea. Thanks!
