Fiberglast overpriced?

Is it just me or do they really overprice everything they sell? For example…

Super77 is almost $30 from them. I asked and they couldnt come down on the price. All the major hardware stores sell the same exact 3M product for under $10. Usually $7 - $9.

Duratec stuff is priced roughly 10 - 30% higher. Correct me if I’m wrong?

1 yard of aluminized fiberglass is almost $45 where as other companies have it under $25. I understand the grade of fabric has to be taken into consideration but we can all agree that aluminized fiberglass is the same junk.

Lastly the carbon fiber prices IMO are outrageous. I was quoted 100 yards at $3800 I believe? Sollar composites sells a full roll for $1800. Thats AS4 aerospace grade. When I asked the grade of carbon fiber from Fiberglast they couldn’t tell me…

The 100 yard roll price was roughly $38 a yard, when most other companies, (from what I’m told) sell the same exact carbon fiber for that price or less at one yard at a time.

I’m trying not to sound like a winer because I hate people who complain, but has anybody else noticed this?

I have nothing against paying a little extra at companies operated and ran in the US but there are dozens of other suppliers that sell the same for less and are all in the US.

thats why you should buy from composite suppliers, rather than hobbyist sites. And yes, fibreglast is grossly overpriced!

Doesn’t fiberglass offer business accounts? Fastenal is the same way. I almost bought a cordless drill for 400bux the same one at lowes was just over 250… Fasts al said theirs was better… It was the same drill only difference was I could pay now or at the end of the month… Lol

Here is a good way to quote your jobs though. Quote them based on fiber glast products. That way your not completely out of the ballpark on your materials costs.

West systems is expensive too!!! But very convenient.

fibreglast buys their products from suppliers then sell for double. You may be able to set up an account but you still will pay more than if u just buy direct. They are just a middle man. And there are plenty of other composite sites online that sell for cheaper if your looking for very small quanities.

I get, and agree with what you guys are saying. I just thought I’d see what your opinions were about them. I feel bad for anybody who purchases through them. I can see how many hobiests and or first timers go to them because they have a decent website. I hope more hobiests and first timers find these forums first though ha.

I thought about opening an account with them just to see what the prices turn into, but seeing that I already save money by purchasing through other suppliers, I might as well save the time as well and not open an account. I usually buy fabric by the roll and resins by the 5 gallon pails but they were not interested in working on any of their prices one bit. Even on the super 77!

Yeah they probably have contracts with companies that holds them afloat. Selling to the general public is probably just icing on the cake.

Mobster cover up… Its g2 be…

:stuck_out_tongue:

Yea, it sucks that Fibreglast is where most people first find composites. I know it is where I have bought a lot of things, until finding real suppliers. Please anyone that has a good supplier for composites post the info here and help us all out!

Thanks

Sam

fiberglast and places like that are where i pick up a bit of stuff, haven’t found a lot of resources though and i’ve never bought a full roll or a 5gal pail. i’d beinterested in where you guys are finding prices half that of fiberglast.

Fibreglast is excellent for first timers for composites. The site is well laid out and they’re extremely helpful with excellent pictures of what you’re buying.

For pro’s like yourself besides just knowing that the prices are high, you also know what 9.7 oz 2x2 Twill is.
