Fabric cutting in the mold?

My question is what type of tape would you use to make a clean line in the mold? this one I used scotch tape and this area will fail so that will not work, I have to keep this line very nice and lined up.

Some cloth with super 77 as a tape? or something like that?

I need a new camera… I did some searching but didn’t find what I was looking for. Im sure it’s covered on here some where.

area pic. My first fabric overlap in the mold so thanks for any help.

I know back in the bowels of the site i read that someone used clear nail varnish to good effect. I have sprayed 77 by using a piece of card as a mask to give a narrow line of tac adhesive on both sides of the carbon, this works ok for me and stops stray fibres ruining a piece. This is how i do a V pattern or any join.

Baz

this is the ultimate seaming!

cool stuff, what was used?
some kind of fabric tape or a glue on the fabric to make the cut’s?

Looks like that could be done with super 77. I do about the same thing as baznos. I spray the back side of the carbon with some super 77. Then i stick it to some of that waxed release paper that stickers come on. The super 77 holds the material together very well.

How about telling us how you accomplished it instead of showing us pics of what we all want to achieve?

i don;t think he did that.
Those are the pics from the SEMA thread aren’t they?

I was just thinking of giving that a shot. Thanks guys I will see how that works. Im going to do another one this weekend.

Thanks guys the 77 and wax paper does the trick, did this playing around on a test/race piece. Just a out of the mold test fit.BUT using the 77 there is still a delamination risk I think. I may try the Infuzene (or whatever its called), to the right in the pic there is a spot I had to test the bond of the fabrics and it was not good.

It could be a Texalium to carbon issue, I have a part set up to infuse carbon to carbon like the first pic’s I will see if the bond is better with that /crossfingers…

yeah those are from SEMA. I am making some stuff for myself seaming. I have a couple ideaas I am going to try and then I will report back with pics and how I did it

Just poped out of the mold I have some stuff to fine tune but it turned out o.k. thanks guys.

Wow. Nice work FZ. That must have taken some time to get right.

Here’s one I did a couple of months back. Only problem with parts this small is the tips of the flames seem to fall apart. (part had not been trimmed yet when the pic was taken)

Awesome job on that fairing!!

SWEET… that small stuff would be tuff, what did you use?

Playing with this over the last week, I just used plastic wrap and super77.

I used the backing of vinyl sticker material and Super 77. The kind used in a plotter to make custom stickers. It’s slick and doesn’t really stick to the fabric that much. The tips of the flames were just way too small so the Texalium fell apart. Still looks OK from a distance- gets a little ugly up close. LOL.

Same here. I have tons of vinyl sticker backings lying around.

could someone please go into detail about how they acheived these seams? I don’t understand all this stuff about using sticker backing and super77? Thanks. Nice job guys!

Take your cloth that you want to make your graphic out of (in this case- texalium), spray Super 77 on it, get a peice of wax paper (or any type of slick paper- in this case, the backing of vinyl stickers- which I use because I get it free), stick the peice of Texalium to it and draw your shape out on the other side of the wax paper. Cut it out and place the Texalium side down into your mold first. Remove the wax paper, Texalium should be held together by the Super 77. Place your first layer of carbon on top, add your buildup material… the rest is up to you on what kind of process you use.

That’s it…

20_rc51_00 here is a pic of the cut out about 1/2 done. I did this one with Glad clingwrap on the back and wax paper on the front (for exp), the wax paper was falling off so I will just use the plastic wrap next time.

I love the sound of the RC51
