Expoy Resin(West System)

What is the shelf life for Expoy Resin, I want to buy a larger amount at one time. Does anybody know a place that has better prices for West system expoy then $64.00 for a gallon.

I can’t help you on this one.

I was wondering too as we haven’t use much epoxie$ in the classroom but I did buy 5 gallons of Hawaiian before the end of school in June.

I just used some tonight (65 degrees in the spray booth) for the first time as I had to repair some CF doors (2 part but not fully sealed at the top) but part A sure was thick! But when I added the hardener, it thinned out alot.

Don’t tell anyone, but I tried to use Zap a Gap super glue on it the other week as a fast repair, but it didn’t adhere or glue the CF together at all!

I was thinking of freezing the Epoxy during the summer months but I didn’t have the room in the 5 foot freezer that we have as it was full of CF Pre-preg. I’m doing a freeze test on Duratec top coat & vacuum bagging adhesive (sticky tape).

Generally, true epoxies have an indefinite shelf life - they are 100% solids with no solvents & have no components that evaporate. Freezing the components is not recommended. Store the components at room temperature and avoid exposure to extremes. Hardeners will almost always darken over time to amber or even brown, but the chemical activity doesn’t change. If the components are exposed to cold temperatures, they may crystalize. Simply warm the components up (seperately) to redissolve the crystals. If you are suspicious about the viablility of your components, then mix a small batch and let it cure.
