I have been making my moulds using west system epoxy,I have got some sp epoxy, the mix ratio is 5-1 for both makes,I have ran out of west epoxy but still have hardener left. My question is can you mix sp with west epoxy, and has anyone done this.I don’t use these epoxy for my parts only for moulds.
Yes, you can mix them. However, you should get the datasheets, and find out the epoxy value for the resin, and the amine value for the hardener.
These should be in the 160-200 range for the resin, and some 30-50 for the hardener.
When you have these, you can calculate the right mixing ratio.
If for example the epoxy value is 200, and the amine value is 40, then the mixing ratio would be:
40/200 * 100% = 20% (by weight)
Of course you should calculate with the real numbers…
Thanks for info because both west and sp are 5-1 ratio I used west pumps on sp ,and sample west rock hard, aim not to bothered about surface finish,I only use this make for moulds,it’s funny that west tg is 50c I have post cured up to100c with no problems, again I don’t mix makes of epoxy but due to having run out of hardener I decided to try mixing, any way thanks for reply.
