epoxy, VE or poly?

hi, I have a sheet made by carbon, glass and kevlar and I don’t know if it’s made by epox, VE or polyester… How can I find out?

Sand it. You can smell it when it is polyester. Also polyester burns much more easily than epoxy.

Between VE and PE is more difficult.

it’s a piece of a sump guard, it’s made with carbonKevlar, glass and carbon, I want to do a new sump guard but I don’t know what kind of resin is

the sheet is used under a rally car, so I can smell it, no odor

I would use epoxy for that purpose.

yes, It’s better epoxy resin, as proprierties and for resin infusion…my problem is post cure…this sump guard is about 1.80x1.30 m and i don’t have a oven with this size.
I saw the same guard, about 3 mm of thickness, made with carbonKevlar, glass and carbon, for sale at about 400€ …I don’t think it’s made with epox.
Tomorrow resin infusion test, 2x carbKev 200 + 8 x 500 glass + 1x 416 carbon with poly

Polyester resin is to fragile for that purpose. i always use epoxy, but not every epoxy can handle gravel.

I use epoxy resin, MGS RIM235

do you think it’s ok for a sump guard?

Yes, perfect resin for that.

thanx herman, very kind as always
