Epoxy Resin question

I’ve seen lots of resins on Ebay and Amazon , that i dont know which one to buy , i mean , when it says for countertops . is it the same as the one for carbon infusion ? does the viscosity change makes it different that lets say , west epoxy or something like that , that i know it works for laminating / infusion ?

i live in Puerto Rico , and its extremely , EXTREMELY hard ( kinda thinking there is no one who sells Epoxy unless its West Systems , in that case its like 100$+ gallon and like 30$ the hardner )

i need a place where i can find Epoxy cheaper than that , someone help me

Epoxy is generally gonna run you 80-100 per gallon. Unless you buy a drum.

I think you’re gonna just have to pay for it if you want epoxy. Or else switch to something else. Though other resins, like vinylester, aren’t gonna be that much cheaper.

It’s for infusion if the viscosity is low. If you look at the data sheet they have the viscosity listed in centipoise. Usually 400 or lower is infusion resin. Epoxies tend to be fairly thick, so 400 is not bad. You can get a vinylester that’s very thin, like almost water.

If you want cheaper resin, you’re gonna have to pay the shipping. Not sure how much extra that is, but overall it’s not cheap.

As for counter top resin. THat’s a special type of resin that is also known as bar top resin. If I take your meaning right. If it is bar top type epoxy, than that resin is meant to be poured in a large amount with a low exotherm and slow cure time to keep the resin crystal clean when it’s cured.

and what about the US composites Resin

is it any good , i read somewhere that Epoxy isnt hazardous material , so it wont eat my wallet when its shipped

there has to be a place where i can buy it online that will be cheaper than buying it here locally

You could try it… for wet layup it’s fine I"m sure.

For infusion it might be a bit too thick. Maybe if it’s warmed up first but, I really only ever warm resins to 75 degrees or so if it’s cold out. Heating up resin to make it then seems like asking for quick B staging problems.

I use this resin personally: http://www.entropyresins.com/products/super-sap-clr

I’m sure there are others.

and , in the case i cant find Epoxy resin (cheaper than west system) :

what else i can use , that could be as clear or close to , compared to Epoxy ?

So wait, what are you doing then? infusing parts?

yea , with west system epoxy

Epoxy is definitely considered a hazardous material for shipping purposes. Domestic air freight in the US for pretty much any amount is going to be pushing $1000.

West systems makes an infusion epoxy called Pro Set. It’s a pretty good resin. For infusion you do need a low viscosity infusion resin. If I couldn’t get that I would probably just vacumn bag the part.
